Double House Arts began as an idea over ten years ago. Originally from the East coast, we moved to Portland in 2013. We decided to learn more about Maine and build connections before launching. After many years of thinking (and sometimes overthinking), we are thrilled to transform this idea into an actual brick and mortar space. We view it as a community offering to Maine artists, makers, and anyone looking to gain or build upon creative skills.

Inspired by some of our favorite arts organizations and recognizing the imminent need for more community in a world that sometimes feels like it is spiraling out of control, we set an intention to create a community arts space where everyone is welcome to create regardless of skill level or background.

We briefly opened in 2020 and ran a few successful pilot programs before pausing. We are ready to hold space again for people to connect and create without judgement. We look forward to collaborating and supporting you as you pursue your creative interests.
